There’s even swan paddle boats.
In Golden, Colorado, there’s a lovely little trail leading to the Enchanted Forest Trail prefect for bikers and hikers alike. Apex Trail to Enchanted Forest Trail Loop is a 5.6 heavily trafficked that features a lovely river and is best used from March until November, so you have plenty of time to go wander this summer.
What’s even more intriguing is the little slice of old history that’s situated at the front of Apex trail leading into Enchanted Forest. The remnants of an old Victorian theme park can be seen near Apex Trail from the old abandoned building, to the put put course, and swan paddle boats that are still around. The project was then abandoned after financial troubles during the construction.
The project was renamed Heritage Square which included some shopping, an alpine slide, and a music hall. That area closed as well, leaving mostly remnants and the great trail that you can still walk on.
If you’re looking to hike this trail, we recommend being aware of the days you’re able to go as someone who bikes and someone who hikes. There’s been a bit of an issue keeping it safe for both those who bike and hike due to the narrowness of the trails. That’s why they’ve proposed an alternative solution.
If you’re planning to bike the trail, make sure to go on even calendar days (so the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and so on). On these days, no hikers or equestrians are allowed on the trails. For hikers and equestrians, you guys get the odd calendar days (3rd, 5th, 7th etc.), and while dogs are allowed on leashes, some hikers have recommended maybe keeping the dog at home for safety reasons.
