A 3 hour road trip away, Palisade, Colorado is a small village in Mesa County, California, known for its peach orchard and wine vineyards, and is surrounded by mountains for which the town got its name.
Palisade is no stranger to fresh fruit, growing and harvest some of the best in the state. From U-Pick farms to festivals highlighting their most famous one, the stone fruit known as the peach, you and the family can have fresh peaches all summer long if you decide to head over to Palisade for the weekend.
The town is known for their summer festivals, from their Lavender Festival that just passed to the city’s most famous summer event, the Peach Festival in August, where patrons can enjoy the fresh taste of “western slope” peaches freshly picked, sautéed, pureed, and blended into drinks. This event takes place on August 11th-13th and will be the city’s 54th annual.
During the festival, the schedule is jam-packed with fun activities, from orchard farm tours during the early morning and afternoon to the Peach Jam concert where you can hear live music. One of our favorite events is the farm to table dinner.
In the mean time, if you’re in the area, check out the amazing Farmers Markets in the city that are open until October, ranked 3rd of 10 in the nation or one of their U-Pick Farms. Green Barn Fruit Co U-Pick Orchard, Fruit Basket Orchards, and Green Acres U-Pick all allow you to pick your own fruits.
