Tom’s Diner is finally reopening after 2 year of closure and some new renovations that we think you should be very excited about. While some may miss Tom’s Diner as it once was, a cheap, 24 hour Capitol Hill hot spot, Tom Messina had a difference vision for its future. In partnership with GBX Group, a historic-friendly developer, Messina is transforming the space into a 1970s, Palm Springs style cocktail bar called Tom’s Starlight. Think bright and gaudy 70s colors and decor with bright splashes of tropical accents, and we mean this in the best way possible.
The deli has been transformed into a cocktail bar, the interior decor is retro and colorful while much of the parking lot has been transformed into an outdoor drinking patio with astroturf grass, totem poles and fountains.
Try not to think too much of the differences–the fact that it’s no longer serving breakfast, at least at the moment, and the fact that it’s no longer a 24-hour diner. Instead, think of this as a little slice of tropical heaven on Colfax and among the Rocky Mountains. The restaurant opens Wednesday, September 28th from 4 p.m. to close Tuesday through Sunday.
