Although Denver might be known as a burrito town, sometimes you just want your breakfast-y fillings encased in between two pieces of bread (whether it be bagel, croissant, or as you’ll see below, pita) instead of a tortilla. Is that so wrong? In case you’re feeling burrito fatigue or want to try something new for fun, then here’s 6 different yummy and unique breakfast sandwiches to try around Denver we think you’ll love.
1. La Fillette Bakery
If you’re a fan of crispy, flaky, buttery croissants as your bread of choice, then look no further than Filette Bakery’s BYO breakfast sandwich. Between two halves of one perfectly baked croissant (or even ciabatta, an english muffin, or focaccia though we recommend the croissant), you can build your own 3 toppings for $10. Choose between a ton of different gourmet or classic toppings like their hailed bacon jam, goat cheese, leeks, mushrooms, meats, and an egg in whatever style you like, and add more toppings for an additional cost. An absolutely divine way to start the morning.
Where: 4416 E 8th Ave, Denver, CO
2. Il Porcellino Salumi
A deli that makes excellent sandwiches from their hand-sliced meats and cheeses, Il Porcellino Salumi made not be your top pick, but it soon will be. The Bacon, their BLT, is hailed as one of the best in the city, and we’re excited to say that they’ve got a breakfast version with Thick Cut Peach Wood Smoked Bacon, a Farm Fresh Egg, Garlic Aioli, Arugula & Vine Ripe Tomatoes on Sourdough Toast. We also would recommend trying out their Everything Bagel Pork Roll with a Fried Egg, House Made Pork Roll & American Cheese on Moe’s Everything Bagel. This is bound to be your new favorite breakfast spot.
Where; 4324 W 41st Ave, Denver, CO 80212
3. Rise N Shine Biscuit Kitchen
A bit on the modest size, but at a reasonable price (most come out to less than 9 dollars), this Sloan’s Lake favorite has got all the biscuity goodness you’ll need. We’d recommend heading there and trying out their Biscuit of the Day, and which you can check in advance on their website, and getting it with jam or honey, cheese, egg, or ham, sausage, or bacon. If you want, get a side of hash browns or smother the biscuit in gravy, which is one of our favorite ways to enjoy it. Get a coffee and your biscuit to go and take a walk around the lake for the perfect Saturday afternoon pick-me-up.
Where: 5126 W 29th Ave, Denver, CO 80212
4. Under the Umbrella
A little unassuming breakfast spot that may not have been on your radar, but should be for its well-priced sandwiches. It’s a walk-up shop so expect a little line in the beginning, but you can peruse their menu of bagels, croissants, and burritos while you wait. For something a little on the unique side, try their Bacon Pesto Breakfast Sandwich with eggs, bacon, swiss, and pesto for only $6.25.
Where: 3507 E 12th Ave, Denver, CO 80206
5. NYC Bagel and Sandwich Shop
Hailed as one of the best spots for an East Coast breakfast, NYC Bagel and Sandwich Shop stands up to its name with authentic ingredients they get from the Big Apple itself. We hope this isn’t too controversial of a statement for any East Coast transplants here. Try their classic breakfast sandwich with fluffy eggs, melty cheese, and your choice of meat. P.S. They’ve even got a beautiful rainbow bagel if aesthetic and taste are what you’re after.
Where: 9555 E. Arapahoe Rd. Suite 16, Greenwood VIllage, CO 80112
6. Crown Burgers
The wild card of the group, Crown Burgers, is your typical no frills burger joint that also happens to do a wildly yummy breakfast pita. A local favorite that has been a bit on people’s bad side lately for their rise in price, we still think they offer a great bang for your buck. Their Pita Sandwich has three fluffy eggs, melty cheese while their sandwich is the same, just on a sesame seed bun. P.S. We highly recommend getting some delicious green chili on the side to make it an epic meal.
